5:17 am
3 (take pkg)the newly proposed regulation will require technology to be standard in all new vehicles sold in the u-s. experts say that could be as revolutionary as seatbelts and airbags. (take gfx)once finalized, the rule will call for vehicle to vehicle communcation, or v-2-v, to be phased in over a few years. (end gfx)(natsound/foxx) (13:15:44) "our goal is to see this technology put in place as soon as possible."secretary of transportation anthony foxx (foxx sot)(foxx 16:42:xx) "over the years we've had about 33,000 fatalities a year on our highways.//...if the technology can substitute for human judgment and help us avoid these crashes we think we can get as much as an 80% reduction. that is a huge change."(natsound/v2v demo)as this department of transportation animation shows, v-2-v uses technology similar to wifi to link cars near each other on the road, allowing them to share information like speed and direction several times a second...so if a vehicle several cars ahead stops abruptly, your car would know almost instantly and warn you to slow down.it may also be able to talk to infastructure like stop lights telling the driver how long until a light changes. v-2-v builds on technology like blind spot
